I found this exploration and musical response to our difficult period of Covid to be really inspiring and reinvigorating. I enjoyed the process of bringing out these themes in these work whilst also experiencing live rehearsals and collaboration again. It felt like such a positive project as we hopefully are now moving out of this dark period.

I had an amazing time singing Semele in the summer! I learnt a lot from this project and it was a joy to be back working in a live team and to sing with the orchestra. Special thanks to conductor Eamonn Dougan and vocal coach Tulli Lindeberg for all their support in realising this amazing role!

I loved being part of the Soiva Kieli project at the Sibelius Academy, exploring rarely heard Nordic repertoire on the theme of Nature, juxtaposed with readings about the effects of climate change around the world.

I sing a variety of beautiful works by Saariaho, Nielsen, Grieg and Stenhammar.

I am delighted to be singing the title role in Handel’s Semele this summer, as part of the Sibelius Summer Academy in collaboration with the Vantaa BRQ Festival and Audite Choir. Looking forward to getting started!

I’ve really enjoyed working on new projects over recent months and I am grateful to have had some work continue during these difficult times.

I had a great time in the working group for Oblivia’s their new opera Obsessions – lots of free improvisation, fun and so great to be back working with new people. Stay tuned for my upcoming contribution to their blog!

At the Sibelius Academy this term I am proud to have performed in a Masterclass of Saariaho’s music lead by Anu Komsi and Pia Värri. It was amazing to dive into this music for a week and I am pleased the performance will available to share online soon.

This year will of course continue to be difficult for many reasons, but I’m so grateful to still have some projects to work towards. I’m currently spending some time on new repertoire and making some new recordings, I’ve got a few auditions coming up and I’m looking forward to starting language lessons in the coming weeks.

I’m singing Caterina in L’amico Fritz by Mascagni and in the chorus for Puccini’s Suor Angelica with Sibelius Academy Opera in March and following straight on from that I’ll also be starting a new staged project at Sibelius Academy exploring the relationship between the natural world and song.

Although postponed at the moment, I’m also looking forward to singing in Sonic Blossom, an installation exploring gifts of song by Lee Mingwei at the Ateneum in Helsinki (now likely to be in Autumn). 

Keeping everything crossed that more normality is on the horizon for 2021 – wishing everyone all the best in this tricky time.

I am so pleased to have been back singing again this week in my first concert at the Sibelius Academy. It has been such a strange and difficult year for all artists during the pandemic and although the situation is far from over, it was a real joy to get back on stage and to bring some music to an audience once again.

I am also excited to share the news that I will be joining Lee Mingwei’s beautiful and emotive installation ‘Sonic Blossom’, which will come to the Ateneum Gallery in Helsinki in the new year. This project involves singing Schubert’s lieder to visitors of the gallery, sharing the music as a gift to the listener. More information can be found at http://www.leemingwei.com .

Absolutely delighted to announce I will be starting my Master’s studies in Vocal Arts at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, Finland this summer! I am very excited for this next step and new experiences in such an inspiring place.

I am delighted to be premiering new piece ‘En Sourdine’ by composer Joel Järventausta, commissioned by Jennifer Coumbe for a commemorative concert to honour the late Charles Richardson. Though the concert has currently been postponed due to the ongoing pandemic, I look forward to singing in the concert when it is rescheduled in the autumn.

It was a wonderful experience to collaborate again on a piece; Joel and I discussed ideas and tried out sketches of the piece at different stages as he built it into a complete work. The piece is for soprano and viola and I very much enjoyed working in this duo for the first time; Katherine Clark is the violist for the premiere and we quickly became responsive to each other in rehearsals, bringing the piece to life.
